A Note from Amelia – June 8,2022
Happy Pride everyone!
What a strange Pride Season this feels like, huh? Am I the only one? After 2 years of being shut down due to a wildly traumatic pandemic the parades and parties are back and it feels kinda weird. Both nostalgic and also with the overwhelming stench of capitalism.
It’s definitely a weird time of year to be the Executive Director of a queer-centric social club that has to survive in a capitalist system. How much do I exploit our gayness for money, money that we definitely need after some very costly and stressful emergency repairs in the last month?
Luckily, therapy has taught me some coping skills that work really well for me when I start to feel down… A gratitude practice in particular always makes my brain feel better!
I’m super thankful to be able to run a space where I’m allowed to be my whole messy, imperfect, struggling-towards-being-a-better-person self.
I’m super thankful to run a space where other people feel comfortable being themselves and opening themselves up to being vulnerable with others.
I’m super thankful to be able to run a space that is so unabashedly weird! I really get to let my creativity run wild and because of that I will never get bored.
I’m super thankful to run a space that is committed to growth and evolution, where we are always trying to do better than we’ve done before. We don’t want to let ourselves get stagnant and do the hard work to push strongly towards progress.
I’m super thankful to be surrounded by such an amazing group of people all working towards a shared vision who support each other as we struggle with our mental health and limitations as humans.
See, I feel better already!
So let’s do this Pride Month and have some fun parties in a space that champions gay culture all year round! Your support is vitally necessary to this Club’s survival and ability to thrive…
Thank you so much for each and every time you’ve shown up for the Clifton Pleasure Club.
