What is the Clifton Pleasure Club?

As a society, we don’t talk to each other face to face enough, this Club is a space where we want to actually hold conversations with each other.

The Clifton Please Club at its core is a good place to gather and eat good food.

We imagine a club…

…That feels its best when it is wildly, sweetly enthusiastic about the people it’s hosting. We aim to provide members with a place to belong, the ability to form friendships and create memories that are a meaningful, lasting part of our collective legacy.

…That challenges racism, white supremacy, homophobia, gender oppression, transphobia, fatbobia, ageism, anti-immigrant oppression, class inequality, religious discrimination, antisemitism, and the oppression of people with disabilities to the best of our ability as we strive to be better.

…Where ambiguous, conflicting, and changing sexual and gender orientations are welcomed.

…That is protected and inclusive, where everyone can express one’s identity freely and comfortably, recognizing that we are a community of artists and weirdos and queers.

…to be a place that supports all journeys, whether your journey is to help tear down the isms of our society, or a journey that confronts your own “ism”. We do this by providing a warm welcome, supportive practices, encouragement and solidarity, and space to find what your journey may be and where it may take you. This includes those who deal with trauma, confront their dependencies, or simply want to respite from a capitalistic society that does not see you as a person, but a dollar sign

…that acknowledges white supremacy of the past and present in the institutions we are a part of today – including our own – and commits to addressing and correcting the implicit bias and racism within our own organization. We strive toward equitable representation in all activities and decisions. We support ourselves and others to navigate the challenges of antiracism work. We actively engage with those who feel the impact of white supremacy most directly, seeking their input, guidance, and honoring the wisdom of their experience. We commit to being uncomfortable and recognize that avoiding discomfort is a barrier to learning and growth.

… that commits to challenging ourselves to be outside our comfort zones when doing the work. When we make mistakes, we want to take the time to reflect on them thoughtfully and keep moving in the work. If the mistake has caused harm, we must make amends for the harm caused through apologies, changes in behavior or other kinds of commitments. We cannot let making mistakes prevent us from continuing our work. We need to support our friends and members of our group when they make mistakes to learn, make amends, and stay in motion.

…To be a space where men can be open to emotional vulnerability, and challenge the pressures of toxic masculinity. Women can enjoy smashing the patriarchy. And we can all find our space in between.

…That fosters a space for people who are committed to platonic intimacy with other humans.

Creating and holding space that’s truly radical takes a lot of time and effort. The same time and effort – and capital – is continuously required to sustain it.

This Club is a queer-run space that provides a place for ALL community to gather comfortably. Allies are crucial to our mission. We appreciate Allies who weaponize their privilege, and money, to ensure this space can continue to serve.

Attending events, inviting your friends, and sharing on social media are all vital ways to support the Club’s continued success.

BE EXACTLY WHO YOU ARE, IN YOUR WEIRD, MAGICAL SELF, IT WILL BE OUR PLEASURE TO WELCOME YOU! (GET IT?)
