Social Justice Series: Community Building

Sunday April 13th, 3pm- 8:30pm
First there was Social Justice Gumbo, then there was Social Justice Stew, now we bring you Social Justice Community Building. There’s a good chance the name may continue to evolve as this concept grows, changes, and takes on a unique energy of it’s own… the creative process in action.

For this installment we bring you Emergency and Personal Preparedness: “Stay ready and you don’t have to get ready”

April’s So-Jus is about preparation; specifically how our community can stay equipped and prepared in our tumultuous climate. Join us for a day of preparation training at CPC as we learn some concrete ways to keep our friends, family and community safer.

Our schedule:
2:30: Club Opens
3pm – 5:30pm: First Aid and Stop the Bleed – In our first workshop we’ll learn how to administer basic first aid and become empowered to act in a bleeding emergency.
5:00 – 7:30: Dinner Served
5:30pm – 6pm Break
6pm – 7pm: Papers, Preparedness and Protection – Our second workshop will cover how we can secure our access to vital paperwork and gender affirming care; as well as practical, real world advice about preparedness. The last part of our second workshop will also explore personal protection options for our queer community, for those who want to receive that information.

What social media sites are you active on? We’re trying to get a sense of what platforms people are on these days. This is more for our general understanding of how to reach our membership’s attention, we will NOT be organizing on any of these sites.

Thursday Night Crafting: This is for people who want to come to the Club on selected Thursday Nights and craft physical ephemera. Think signs, buttons, T-shirts, hankies, placards, stickers, magnets ext.

Thursday Night Crafting Leadership: This is for people who are willing to take turns leading craft nights, planning new crafts, organizing crafting supplies, orientating people with the crafts and helping them get set up.

Crafting Financial Support: People who aren’t crafty or otherwise unable to participate in crafting but want to financially support this project. This money will be spent on supplies and postage for sending this magic out into the world.

Maintaining the new Information Power Station. Gathering the information and resources we would like to share, printing out the information, keeping the physical bulletin board neat and current, removing outdated information.

Do you have skills that you’d like to share? For example: packing a go bag, growing food, canning food, what documents people should have and how to get them, ext. Please list it all- we will sort through what we get back and start grouping it into types of knowledge.
