A Note from Amelia – November 2, 2022
Happy 8 Year Anniversary
WOW! The last year has been a LOT, well to be clear, the last few years have been a lot for our Club (and the entire world…)
This Club has had so much growth, what has sometimes felt like an overwhelming amount of growth, and we’ve been doing our best as on organization to hold it together and stay on top of it all.
Riding the surf as it were, trying to keep our balance, and not fall off the damn board.
A large part of managing that growth has happened behind the scenes where spreadsheets and systems live. Technology and automation can be cold and we know it lacks the warmth of human touch. It’s also super necessary. We need to be able to accurately track our membership, our dues, how many people are coming through our doors and who they are. It has been a tremendous amount of work that we’ve been slowly but steadily chipping our way through for the last 2 years in between all the tasks it takes to have dinners and events.
One of the pieces of knowledge that it has taken YEARS to really learn (the hard way, always the hard way, repeatedly) is how hard it it to properly maintain an old system while simultaneously forging a new system. There is a small crew that works to makes the magic happen around here and we only have so much energy that each of us can devote to the CPC. It’s why we are constantly thankful for the amount of grace and understanding that our membership gives us.
For our 9th year we are setting the intention to refocus ourselves from membership growth, which has been so important for so many years, to membership retention and happiness. To how we as a Board can set up structures that strengthen the bonds of community and facilitate stronger fellowship.
To create the space needed for this work to happen, we will be closing membership for 3 months starting December 1st. This will give us the time we need to revamp how we communicate our culture to people as they join our Club and how we can support them getting to know us.
Capitalism is a harsh, cruel system and this intentional act is not without a financial cost. So we are coming to you, our community again as we ask for your monetary contribution to helping this space exist.
